Telegärtner developed a M12 circular connector series for transmitting high and highest data rates in industrial communication. This connector system includes cable plugs for assembly in the field, printed circuit board receptacles as well as pre-assembled connecting cables.
Industrial requirements for secure and continuous transfer of constantly increasing data volumes demand cabling solutions which are able to satisfy the needs of today and the future. The cabling of industrial communication networks in accordance with IEC 61918 also provides for the 4 and 8-pole versions of the M12x1 round connector as a plug interface.
The 4-pole M12x1 D-coded circular connectors can be used for installations in the PROFINET environment for data rates up to 100 Mbit/s. For even higher data rates up to 10 Gbit/s the circular connector is standardised as an 8-pole version M12x1 in X-coding. This version also enables a power supply to connected terminating equipment in accordance with IEEE 802.3at (53 V DC, 30 W).
Users can easily and reliably contact devices and systems with high bandwidth requirement and high packing density in IP67 class of protection on site at the industrially compatible con¬nector series M12x1 X-coded from Telegärtner. The new M12x1 round connectors are suitable for cabling of industrial communication networks in accordance with IEC 61918 Edition 3.0. In addition to the 4-pole and 8-pole versions of the field assembly connectors, the manufacturer also offers printed circuit board receptacles and pre-assembled connecting cables.
Controlling cameras for surveillance functions
The 4-pole M12x1 D-coded circular connectors are standardised in accordance with IEC 61076-2-101 and enable data rates up to 100 Mbit/s. They can be used for installations in the PROFINET environment. For even higher data rates up to 10 Gbit/s the circular connector is standardised as an 8-pole version M12x1 in X-coding in accordance with CDV 61076-2-109. This version also enables power supply to connected terminating equipment in accordance with IEEE 802.3at (53V DC, 30W). This allows applications such as security or video surveillance (CCTV), passenger information systems (PIS) or production monitoring with high-resolution cameras to be implemented.
With field-assembly version of the new M12x1 X-coded Cat.6A connector, networks can be set up flexibly on site without special tools. The connector offers 360° shield connection and is suitable both for terminating to solid conductors and stranded cables. Both S/FTP and SF/UTP types with a wire diameter of 0.9–1.6 mm and an external diameter of 5.5–9 mm can be used for the connection.
Field configuration without special tools
As printed circuit board receptacle types with housings for front or rear panel assembly, they are also available without housing and with a 4x shield connection to the printed circuit board. The interface therefore offers component manufacturers various options for integration into their products. Telegärtner also offers pre-assembled connecting cables for the connection between machines or other terminating equipment as well as connection of the machine or terminating de-vice in the switch cabinet. The M12x1 D-coded connecting cable with a SF/UTP 2x2xAWG22/7 PUR design are in accordance with the PROFINET specification. The connecting cables with M12x1 X-coded have an S/FTP 4x2xAWG26/7 PUR structure and increased temperature range of -40° to + 85°C. The products are UL-listed.
